The Poor Don’t Raise Children; They Raise Partners in Survival
Not Every Child Gets to Experience Childhood Poverty is not simply the inability to buy what we want, nor is it merely the lack of luxuries that make life more comfortable. True poverty begins when basic needs become a daily burden, and the simplest necessities turn into battles that drain a person before the day has even begun. Yet the greatest tragedy is not simply that parents live under the pressure of financial hardship, but that this pressure extends into their children’s childhoods and futures, turning them into part of the crisis instead of allowing their homes to be a safe refuge from it. There is, however, another tragedy that may be less visible: becoming so consumed by our own struggles that we can no longer see someone dear to us suffering right before our eyes.
